Robert Byrd: The United States Senator Who Doesn't Quit
Robert Byrd is a United States Senator who has seen extensive scandal. His long career in the White House continues to remain strong, regardless. It's interesting to note that there's potentially more to this man's career. In addition to being a senator, he is the President Pro Tempore. This position means that he is in line for the U.S. presidency. Of course, that would mean that several others would have to miss out first. The vice-president is first in line followed by House speaker. Regardless, this is a top honor not bestowed on many in their lifetime. Robert Byrd is one of the few to appear on this historical list. The irony is that this man has been accused of widespread scandal. During his time in office, there have been horrific claims against him. For example, he has been accused of being a member of the KKK. This hateful society is not befitting of anyone, not to mention one in public office. But back in the 1940's, Robert Byrd was indeed a part of it. Since that time, he has expressed regret over his involvement, but it left many confused. How could a man who could potentially be the U.S. president belong to a group based on hate? To this day, Robert Byrd claims immaturity for his actions. He has also said the KKK seemed like a good stepping stone. However, it became clear that it wasn't and it was wrong. Regardless of opinions on this, Robert Byrd has still managed to progress in his career like Tracy Byrd.
Considering this great scandal, it is a wonder Robert Byrd has come so far in politics. But there are many politicians whose reputations are tarnished, yet they still succeed. There are many in America who do not believe this should be the way. Yet, politics has been a scandalous business for years and years.
It's easy to remember the time when "sexual relations" were widely discussed in U.S. politics. President Bill Clinton was thrown into the hot seat for his actions. He had had relations with someone other than his wife and was exposed. Similar to Robert Byrd, his career continued, but the embarrassment lingered.
For those going into politics, it's important to remember personal life and business life are one. Any actions that can be deemed questionable are best avoided. Even in youth, much like when the KKK situation with Robert Byrd occurred. Take actions to only take part in the positive, patriotic lifestyle.
Perhaps it's optimistic to think that type of lifestyle truly exists in society anymore. But for a country, leadership is what guides this great nation. Political leaders should be setting standards and constantly inspiring the country, not dodging shady accusations. Otherwise, scandals like those of Robert Byrd, United States Senator are never far behind.
